Professor Chris Whitty has been appointed as the new Chief Medical Officer(CMO) for England, and the UK Government’s Chief Medical Adviser fromOctober 2019. He is currently the Chief Scientific Adviser for the Department ofHealth and Social Care (DHSC), a practising NHS Consultant Physician in acutemedicine and infectious diseases at University College London Hospitals(UCLH), and Gresham Professor of Physics.
Professor Whitty’s lecture is timely given the development of the new Kent andMedway Medical School and the establishment of the new NIHR AppliedResearch Collaboration Kent, Surrey and Sussex which both have a specificfocus on addressing community health needs and improving health and socialcare services across the region.
