Canterbury Climate Action Network was originally formed as Canterbury Climate Action Partnership (CCAP) in June 2019 as a partnership between the Canterbury Society and the Canterbury Sustainable Development Goals Forum.
In 2025 it was relaunched as Canterbury CAN reflecting our new approach as a network, bringing the district together to deliver Net Zero.
The main aim of Canterbury CAN is to bring Canterbury and the surrounding district together as a network to share knowledge, experiences and ideas in this area, supporting members on climate action and sustainability initiatives and building capacity across the area.
Although focused primarily on carbon emissions reduction, the network is co-developed by its members involved in various climate action fronts, including energy, biodiversity and wildlife, food, green and blue spaces, transport and mobility, housing and buildings, recycling and waste management.
We also seek to work with Canterbury City Council to shape and realise the climate, environment and other relevant priorities of the Canterbury Climate Action Plan.
Our steering group serves to help organise Canterbury CAN’s events, activities, initiatives and its future development. It comprises representatives from the community, university, schools and residents. Meet the Team below!
