Who is the programme for?

This part-time, flexible, work-based Master's qualification is suitable for all those involved in the management of medical education. It offers you the opportunity to attain academic recognition for the skills, knowledge, and experience that you have developed in the workplace whilst focusing on a specific area of practice relevant to your work and career progression.

You explore your profession further and consider the professional challenges associated within your specific area of practice, with modules that have been designed to help you review and analyse the current debates relevant to the professional context in which you are working.

The course is taught online during four extended weekends per year, is 100% coursework assessed and runs over three years, with each being equivalent to a recognised postgraduate qualification: PgCert, PgDip and MSc.

Due to visa restrictions, students who require a student visa to study cannot study part-time, unless undertaking a distance or blended-learning programme with no on-campus provision.

What you'll study

The following modules are indicative of those offered on this programme. This list is based on the current curriculum and may change year to year.

In Stage 1 - Year 1 (PG Certificate) you take the following core modules:

  • WKBL8830 - Evidence-Based Practice (30 credits) 
  • WKBL8200 - Introduction to Medical Education Management (30 credits) 

In Stage 2 - Year 2 (PG Diploma) you take the following core modules:

  • WKBL8820 - Research Skills (30 credits) 
  • WKBL8210 - Contemporary Issues in Medical Education Management (30 credits) 

In Stage 3 - Year 3 (MSc) you take the following core module:

Taught sessions are delivered in a welcoming, supportive and flexible academic environment, by an academic team with extensive professional practitioner experience. They are experienced in delivering work-related programmes and understand the constraints of balancing a career with the demands of higher education.

How you'll study

Postgraduate taught modules are designed to give you advanced study skills, a deeper knowledge of the subject, and the confidence to achieve your ambitions.

Entry requirements

2.2 or above

Applicants are normally required to have a minimum of two years’ professional experience and hold an undergraduate degree (or equivalent).

If you do not hold the required entry qualification(s) but believe that you would be able to participate in this course and have the potential to work at Master's level please contact us.

All applicants are considered on an individual basis and additional qualifications, professional qualifications and relevant experience may also be taken into account when considering applications.

The 2026/27 annual tuition fees for UK postgraduate research courses have not yet been set by the Research Councils UK. This is ordinarily announced in March. As a guide only, the full-time tuition fee for new and returning UK postgraduate research courses for 2025/26 is £5,006.
