Tell us about your career path since graduation.

After graduating, I started working with a Grant Thornton as a consultant in the development sector, primarily in skills development and women empowerment. Soon after getting the exposure in the development sector, I followed my dream of becoming a designer. I started my fashion label called Zeefaa which aims to utilise Indian crafts and textiles. The clothing line is available on all leading platforms in the country.

What does a typical work day look like for you?

Running a fashion label is exciting and challenging at the same time. The day is full of opportunities and hurdles. The day includes things like management, designing, marketing, strategy and finances.

Can you share a professional highlight from your career so far?

I have worked with international NGOs, the United Nations, NGOs and corporates in the CSR projects. Since then, I have started my label which involves local artisans and their crafts. My clothing range is available on all leading platforms of the country. I also take guest lectures at National Institute of Fashion Technology, which ranks number 1 in the country and one of the best in the world on design and management curricula.

How did your time at Kent help you achieve your current career?

Kent has given me the opportunity to understand different cultures and given me first-hand knowledge about management theories. Assignment and case studies helped me to analyse critically, which still helps in planning and development. Modules on marketing, accounting, strategy and international business were thoroughly designed, which has helped me immensely in devising a strategy for my brand.

What advice would you give to our current/prospective students who are looking to get into the same line of work?

The key is to get started and follow the dream. Utilise as much knowledge as you can that you have learnt in the school. This world is full of resources, we only need to gather our thoughts and utilise them.

Did you get involved in any extracurricular activities as a student?

I was a student representative and was part of many communities on campus. It is very important for the overall development of an individual.

Do you have a favourite memory from your time at Kent?

Dissertation time was my favourite time at Kent because we did not have classes. We had to plan and organise our day according to the project we had undertaken. I was also working with Kent Union on campus and I enjoyed both my time at work and in the library.

Is there anything you would do differently if you could repeat your time at Kent?

I would spend more time in the Business School, which is a relatively new building. It is very appealing to the eyes and designed very well. I would also spend my time in library.

Are you still in touch with other Kent alumni or academics?

Yes I am still in touch with other Kent alumni and some of my professors.

What are your future ambitions?

To expand my brand internationally and participate in fashion weeks in London, Paris and Milan.
