Tell us about your career path since graduation.

I attended BPP law school and then trained with a local firm. I worked at Furley Page for quite a period of my career and then went to Brachers as a Partner at the age of 35. After having my small person, I took up the opportunity to take over the firm of Tassells in Faversham.

What does a typical work day look like for you?

It's so varied!

I have a full case load, so I tend to have on average 3 client meetings a day (normally more as I find it hard to say no!). I always take a junior member of staff with me as I deal with the majority of the training in our Private Client team.

I spend time with the team whether it be supervising / craft lunches / catching up / eating chocolates in the kitchen! There will normally be a management meeting about staff / recruitment / money etc. I've found it fascinating (and scary) learning how to run a law firm!I love to network and although not a priority at the moment due to our work levels I do still catch up with referrers.

If I have time I do some work!

Can you share a professional highlight from your career so far?

Making Partner at Brachers at such a young age and also being a finalist for a STEP award were huge for me but the highlight has to be winning Managing Partner of the Year at the Modern Law Private Client Awards earlier this year (2024) in my first year as a Managing Partner.

How did your time at Kent help you achieve your current career?

I absolutely loved my time at Kent, especially everything I did with the Kent Law Clinic. The clinic gave me confidence and helped me realise what it was really like to be a lawyer. I excelled more in the practical side than the academic, so this gave me a huge boost and also helped me secure my training contract.

What advice would you give to our current/prospective students who are looking to get into the same line of work?

For me, I always look to recruit people with great communication skills. It's such a skill to make clients feel comfortable with you and open up about their issues. Bring your personality!

Did you get involved in any extracurricular activities as a student?

I was part of the Netball Club for my whole university experience, finishing up as Chair in my final year. I loved every minute.

Do you have a favourite memory from your time at Kent?

I won Sportswoman of the Year in my final year and that was a huge achievement especially seeing my name on the board!

Is there anything you would do differently if you could repeat your time at Kent?

Stay in touch with more people after graduation.

Are you still in touch with other Kent alumni or academics?

Yes I still visit the university a lot, and my firm is involved in the MLAW scheme.

What are your future ambitions?

Grow my law firm and turn it into the 'go to' Private Client Firm.
