|50th Anniversary Research Scholarships 2012
The School is currently inviting applications for three 50th Anniversary Research Scholarships. The closing date for applications is 1st June 2012. These will take the form of Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) which will cover tuition fees at the Home/EU rate plus a combined maintenance grant and salary, equivalent to the maintenance grant offered by the UK Research Councils (£13,590 in 2011-12). GTA candidates may apply to the School for an extension scholarship (maintenance grant and home/EU fees) to support up to 6-12 months of additional research after the GTA has finished.
SMSAS PhD studentships 2011/12
The School will award several PhD studentships in 2011/12. Our studentships are open to candidates of all nationalities applying to the PhD programme in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics. Applicants must have a good Honours degree (either first or upper second class), or a Masters degree in a relevant subject.
SMSAS PhD studentships funded by a Research Council such as the EPSRC or NERC cover tuition fees at the Home/EU rate and provide a maintenance grant for 3.5 years (subject to satisfactory progress) at the same rate as the UK Research Council's (£13,590 per annum in 2011-12).
SMSAS PhD studentships not funded by a Research Council will take the form of Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs). Students engaged as Graduate Teaching Assistants hold a unique position in the University in that they are both registered students in receipt of a scholarship award and employees of the University.
Teaching duties may include: marking, demonstrating, tutoring, outreach and, where appropriate, lecturing. The School expects that GTA students will do no more than 6 hours of teaching and teaching-related duties per week during term-time.
The GTAs cover tuition fees at the Home/EU rate plus a combined maintenance grant and salary, equivalent to the maintenance grant offered by the UK Research Councils (£13,590 in 2011-12). These are offered for 3 years (subject to satisfactory progress in research and teaching). GTA candidates may apply to the School for an extension scholarship (maintenance grant and home/EU fees) to support up to 6-12 months of additional research after the GTA has finished.
All scholarships include a travel grant of up to £500 p.a. to allow students to present their work at national and international conferences.
