Religious Studies
Welcome to the Religious Studies section at the University of Kent. We are proud to offer a range of degree programmes, at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Our staff have a strong international research reputation, and we offer one of the most exhilarating and wide-ranging study opportunities in the UK. Religious Studies at Kent was ranked 8th in the UK in the 2006 Guardian Student Guide.
Religion is a vital element in human culture, and today religious issues are everywhere – from current affairs and international events, to the history of ideas, art and literature, and our own immediate experience and environment. Religious Studies at Kent involves investigating and discussing these ideas, experiences, practices and institutions, through texts, films, historical data and directly observing the world today.
We offer a range of programmes reflecting the central place of religion in human life and thought, including our BA in Religious Studies and our MAs in Applied Theology, Mysticism & Religious Experience and the Cultural Study of Cosmology & Divination.
Some of our modules provide introductions to major world religions; others investigate philosophical themes within religious studies; and others explore connections between religion and topics such as psychology, science, ethics, films, literature and the arts. Canterbury is a well-known centre in world religion, and the University has strong links with the Cathedral library and archives.
