The Times Higher Education (THE) has ranked Kent 17th* for research intensity in the REF (Research Excellence Framework) 2014.

The THE ranking takes into account the overall quality, and the proportion, of staff submitted.

Published on 18 December, the THE also provides rankings for institutions based on research power, which takes into account the quality profile and number of researchers included in university submissions to the REF.

Kent was ranked 30th (up ten places from the previous exercise) representing an increase of 59% – the third largest increase in the top 50 leading universities.
