Furniture and furnishings
It is now possible for all departments to work directly with companies and independently process orders through the key approved suppliers for office furniture, carpeting, blinds and removals using order forms designed by the Purchasing Office specifically for each approved supplier.
University guide to ordering furniture and furnishings
To start your order, select the product or service required from the tabs above, then to place an order please download the appropriate order form and fill out using the prompts provided. Once completed you can print this and three copies are produced:
First Copy: Fax, email or post to the supplier so the order is directly placed by the department.
Second Copy: To keep for your records.
Third Copy: Send to Carol Leonard Facilities Management Co-ordinator Estates Department.
Once the goods are received the invoice can be passed to payments with a F1 form (treat as other ordering such as stationery). Those on Agresso can order in the usual way electronically.
Each service provides the following:
Furniture - Supply and installation of furniture, layout drawings and quotations
Removals/storage - Surveys and quotations for relocating items, disposal and offsite storage.
Flooring - Surveys and quotations for the supply and installation of all types of flooring
Blinds and fittings - Surveys and quotations for window coverings, whiteboards, pinboards and small moves.
Signage - Surveys, quotations, delivery and installation for internal signs using the Universitys approved signage system.
If, for whatever reason, a company is not available to undertake the work, or you are uncertain about the new procedures, please email Carol Leonard, the Facilities Management Technical Co-ordinator C.P.Leonard@kent.ac.uk between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

New Furniture

Please note Broadstock do not have a waste licence therfore please arrange disposal of old items prior to delivery using an approved removal contractor. If it is a small number of items contact the Estates Helpdesk to arrange collection.

Second Hand Furniture
We also have a small stock of second hand furniture available on campus free of charge please email your requests to Alan Hollister (a.b.hollister@kent.ac.uk) or Carol Leonard (C.P.Leonard@kent.ac.uk) also for any unwanted furniture we are happy to take this subject to room and condition but we do have other ways of recycling furniture to avoid it being directed to landfill.
Removals and Storage
We have three approved removal and storage companies for departmental ordering, their services include relocating office furniture and equipment, disposal and storage facilities offsite. These companies will provide quotations and expertise on scheduling in moves and realistic time scales required on the each project.

Carpet and Flooring
We have two approved flooring companies for departmental ordering, their services include surveys and quotations for the areas required and recommendations for the most suitable product.

When requesting a quote, please make sure that contractor includes the removal and re-fixing of doors and any adjustment to doors to allow them to open and close easily. Not all jobs will require this.
The room must be clear for work to be undertaken; therefore you will need to coordinate furniture moves in and out of the office liaising with the necessary companies i.e. Broadstock (New Furniture Deliveries); Doree Bonner (removals & packing); and/ or the Estates Department (removals or additional works).
You will need to arrange access to the working area. If this is outside normal working hours then “Campus Watch” will need to be informed so that the building/room can be opened or keys can be issued to the contractor.
Blinds, shelving, whiteboards and noticeboards
Goldsack Blinds & Contracts Ltd is a versatile company which is familiar with the University Campus at Canterbury and Medway.
Services include:
- Supply and fit curtain tracks/ poles/ curtains/ all types of blinds; flyscreens; window film.
- Repairs to window furniture/ blinds etc.
- Supply and install wall shelving and Dexion racking
- Supply and/or fit white boards and notice boards
- Undertake limited carpentry work
- Undertake some furniture repairs
- Undertake some furniture removals

Internal Signage
We have one approved signage company, who can carry out all our internal signage. They can come to site and undertake surveys and make recommendations based on the Universities approved signage scheme.
