" The University at Buffalo was founded in 1846 as a private medical college and merged with the State University of New York system in 1962. Today UB is New York State's premier public center for graduate and professional education, as well as the state's largest and most comprehensive public university. A member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, the University at Buffalo stands in the first rank among the nation's research-intensive public universities."

Please note that dormitories do not provide towels, sheets, pillows, etc. A shopping trip will be included in orientation, but students might be happier bringing one towel or sheet from home if they will be sleeping in their dormitory room before the shopping trip. I recommend living on the South Campus because of its proximity to the City of Buffalo and public transportation. However, the North Campus is newer, closer to classes, and new undergraduate apartments opened in the fall of 1999. Off campus housing is plentiful and inexpensive around the South Campus and UB does not require exchange students to live on campus. It is usually not possible to set up an off-campus apartment before arrival in the US, though.
