Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity

Student Success (EDI)

Student Success is a priority agenda at the University of Kent which promotes student Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity. The Student Success Team sits within the Education Directorate, and was set up in 2015 to address sector-wide and institutional factors/ barriers that trigger lower rates of attainment, continuation and progression amongst students from low socioeconomic groups, disabled students and students from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups.

The Student Success Team leads a university-wide research/action research approach to reducing attainment gaps and driving cultural change across the University. The Team has a pivotal role in ensuring the University meets the strategic and statutory objectives in its Access and Participation Plan.

What makes our approach unique is the ongoing dialogue between theory and practice. The Student Success Team conducts on-going institutional research. We collate and analyse data to inform our research and develop activities and interventions to support student success.

We have a central team of specialists working on data, evaluation, systems, research, and cross departmental development.

We work in partnership with academic schools, implementing Student Success protocols, interventions, and monitoring and evaluation.
