A new exhibition space has been launched at the Medway campus with a free installation by an art student that is open to all.
Housed inside a 20ft shipping container, the fully fitted space – known as ROOM – can function as a studio, gallery or public engagement facility and aims to extend student activities beyond the studio to encourage cross-disciplinary dialogue and exchange.
ROOM was originally commissioned by Art at the Centre Swale in 2010 and was designed by architect/artist Simon Barker.
It is currently located outside the Pilkington Building and is accessible to all.
ROOM’s inaugural exhibition is by School of Music and Fine Art (SMFA) student Sariya Suwannakarn.Titled ‘<!DECLARING INDIVIDUALITY>’ , this exhibition explores the space between the virtual and physical worlds and how technology has given people the ability to choose a new identity. It is free and open to all between 11am and 6.30pm11-12 November.
Fine Art graduates from SMFA were recently shortlisted for the Medway Culture, Design and Tourism Awards.
