A community arts project led by five recent Fine Art graduates has been shortlisted for the Medway Culture, Design and Tourism Awards.

The Wetlands project aims to inspire community interest in the Medway landscape, particularly the Hoo Peninsula, through innovative events including an origami workshop, pop-up cinema, arts café and treasure hunt.

The project was launched by School of Music and Fine Art (SMFA) students, Ben Crawford, Clarinda Tse, Nadia Perotta, Aggela Ioannidou and Georgina Wilcox, who graduated from the BA (Hons) Fine Art degree in 2015.

The annual Medway, Culture, Design and Tourism Awards celebrate outstanding achievements of groups, individuals, projects and people and their contributions to the area’s cultural vitality, in arts, design, heritage and tourism.

Wetlands was shortlisted in the highly competitive Visual Arts category, alongside artist and SMFA lecturer Adam Chodzka‘s Great Expectations sculpture and video. SMFA Delta Project Officer Alan Mash was shortlisted in the Music category and SMFA Music Technician Charlie Fleming was nominated as part of the Fort Amherst team who put together a visitor audio app.

The 14 winners of the 2015 awards were announced at a gala presentation evening on 22 October at MidKent College, Gillingham.
