- Dr Deborah Cheney
Deborah joined Kent Law School in 1994 and was a full time senior lecturer until 2010. Deborah has taught across the curriculum but has particular interests in criminal law, penology, punishment and forensic science. Her research interest is primarily focussed on critical approaches to the UK prison system, with a special interest in regimes, prisoners’ rights, human rights and rehabilitation. Deborah is a Patron of UNLOCK (the National Association of Reformed Offenders) and acts in a voluntary capacity on Boards of advisory committees connected to prison reform and has contributed to articles on prison reform and national policies.
Deborah is currently writing the biography of Dr Mary Louisa Gordon, first woman to be appointed as an inspector of prisons. Deborah was appointed an Honorary Fellow in 2010, maintaining her long association with Kent Law School.
