About

Sinéad is a PhD student for the European Industrial doctorate (EID) project SOLOCLIM (Solutions for outdoor climate adaptation) for which she is dividing her time between the University of Kent in Canterbury and Carlo Ratti Associati in Turin, Italy.

In 2019 she graduated from a Master in Advanced Ecological Building at the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia in Barcelona, following on from a Bachelor in Environments (Urban Design) at the University of Melbourne, Australia.  Between degrees she spent time travelling and working in various parts of the world including on disaster response projects in The Philippines and Nepal. Her experiences have given her a unique cross-scale perspective from focusing on global issues and resilience on a large scale to small scale systems and digital building techniques on small scale. She regards design as a problem-solving methodology and is interested in combining this aspect of design with environmental science to help create more resilient and ecologically conscious cities.

Her current research integrates climate science with urban design to develop solutions for improving the comfort and livability of outdoor urban spaces and contribute to the future resilience of cities. This is part of the Innovative Training Networks (ITN) and part of Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions funded by the European Commission within the Horizon 2020 programme.
