Corporate Sustainability Communication of Multinational Corporations in Emerging Markets

Multinational corporations (MNCs) play an important role in the global agenda for sustainable development through the significant influence they wield over the economic, social, and ecological landscapes of emerging markets.

Effective communication and stakeholder engagement is considered key to the success of corporate sustainability initiatives, and by extension, global sustainable development goals.

Understanding the ‘why’, ‘how’, ‘where’, ‘when’, ‘what’ and ‘to whom’ of corporate sustainability communication (CSC), as well as its impact on diverse audience groups could help improve business performance, organisational reputation and stakeholder relationships. Improving the effectiveness of sustainability communication could also drive collective societal action towards the achievement of sustainability objectives.

My research is focused on the motivations, mechanisms and processes related to the sustainability communication of MNCs operating in emerging markets, with special focus on Africa, particularly Nigeria and the wider West Africa region.
