About

Tentative PhD Title:- Marginalised Homes: An Analysis of 21st century Adivasi fictions in India.

Rituparna Mondal is a Ph.D. student at the Centre for Postcolonial Studies. She joined the School of English in September 2022. Her research focuses on twenty-first century Adivasi fictions in India, examining how contemporary Adivasi (indigenous community in India) writers employ creative and aesthetic innovations to represent their lived and material realities. Drawing on cultural materialism, her research investigates the domestic space of Adivasis through the material contexts of food, land, and religion. Her theoretical framework integrates Michel de Certeau’s notion of resistance through the 'practice of everyday life' to explore how domestic spaces emerge as sites of resistance in Adivasi literary narratives.

Rituparna completed her B.A. (Hons) and M.A. in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University, India, and was the second rank holder during both her degrees. She also holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Jadavpur University. She is proficient in English, Bengali, and Hindi, and has completed A-levels in French and Arabic. She has undertaken a certificate course in translation under CENTIL, Jadavpur University, and has qualified the National Eligibility Test for Assistant Professorship in India.

She received CHASE funding for a placement with Wasafiri Magazine (2023–2024). She currently serves as the Lead Editor for the Litterae Mentis postgraduate journal (2024–present) and as the Submissions Editor for Brief Encounters Journal. Rituparna also engages in peer reviewing for academic journals and is in the process of co-founding a new literary magazine that will feature academic and creative writings from the Global South.
