About

My name is Daisy Shaw and I’m an MSc Microbiology Masters by Research Student in the Hall Lab (Dr Becky Hall). I am particularly interested in infectious diseases.

I graduated from the University of Kent with a 1st in Biomedical Science in 2021. Due to not being able to do a final year lab project because of COVID-19, I wrote a dissertation about the controversial parasitic protist Blastocystis, looking into the global prevalence and distributions of the microorganism’s different subtypes.

My current project is looking into the interaction between Pseudomonas aeruginosa with Rhizopus microsporus, one of the fungi responsible for mucormycosis (Black fungus), which is very resistant to antifungal treatments. It has been shown that the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa is able to inhibit growth of R. microsporus and I am looking into the mechanism behind this and the molecules responsible.

Supervision

Supervised by Dr Anastasios Tsaousis.
