About

Dr. Jo Shaw is a dedicated conservation scientist and CEO of Save the Rhino International based in London. She completed her MSc in Conservation Biology at the University of Cape Town and her PhD in Animal Ecology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.

With over 25 years’ experience of using systems thinking in designing and implementing wildlife research and conservation projects, her expertise ranges from transboundary programmes to address wildlife trafficking, regional rhino range expansion efforts, and co-authorship of reports including exposure of the illegal trade in rhino horn between Viet Nam and South Africa as well as the new African Rhino Conservation Framework.

Prior to joining SRI in July 2023, she was African Rhino Lead for WWF International and led the WWF South Africa Wildlife Portfolio. Jo is a member of the IUCN African Rhino Specialist Group and the IUCN Sustainable Use and Livelihoods Specialist Group.
