Semester abroad

If you are not able to study at Kent for a full academic year, you could come for one or two terms

The University's academic year is split into three terms: Autumn Term, Spring Term and Summer Term. There are several options depending on what works best for you.

Autumn Term (Fall semester)

The Autumn Term runs for three months from September to December. Students choose modules worth 60 credits from those offered in the Autumn Term.

This option is available to exchange and non-exchange (fee-paying) students. 

Application deadline

The application deadline for the fall semester is 15 June. Early application is recommended.

Spring Term 

The Spring Term runs for three months from January to April. Students choose modules worth 60 credits from those offered in the Spring Term.  

This option is available to exchange students.   

Application deadline 

The application deadline for the spring semester is 15 November. Early application is recommended.

Autumn and Spring Terms

This period runs from September to April. Students choose modules worth 60 credits in the Autumn Term and 60 credits in the Spring Term. 

This option is available to exchange students.    

Spring semester

This period covers the Spring and Summer Terms, from January to June. Students choose modules worth 60 credits from those offered in the spring term and must stay for examinations in the Summer Term.

This option is available to exchange and non-exchange (fee-paying) students.   

Application deadline 

The application deadline for the spring semester is 15 November. Early application is recommended.

Important note re examinations

All examinations are held during the Summer Term.

If your study period will finish in December or April and you wish to choose a module that includes an examination, it may be possible for Kent to arrange an alternative form of assessment. Please contact us for details.

Accommodation

Students are guaranteed on campus housing if they apply by the deadline.  For those who start their studies in September, this is 30 June and for January, 30 November. All rooms are single, and there is a choice of catered or self-catered. En-suite or shared facilities.  See our accommodation pages for more information. Students who would prefer to live off campus can find out about private accommodation.

Entry requirements

The minimum requirements are:

  • A GPA of 3.0 or above (out of 4.0) or equivalent. However, each application is considered on an individual basis.
  • For non-native speakers we require either of the following;
    • An IELTS overall score of 6.5, with at least 6.0 in Reading and Writing and 5.5 in Listening and Speaking
    • A TOEFL overall score of 90, with at least 22 in Reading, 21 in Writing, 17 in Listening and 20 in Speaking
