Overview

Immersing yourself in the vibrant culture of Japan, you will focus on developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, all aimed at fostering practical communication in everyday situations (such as greetings, introductions, and personal interactions). Your learning will include discovering and using vocabulary relevant to everyday scenarios and constructing basic sentences and common expressions. You will have the chance to share and inquire about simple information concerning familiar topics and immediate needs. Along the way, you will also engage with diverse cultural elements, allowing you to appreciate the rich lifestyle of Japan and deepen your understanding of the language in context. In so doing, you will acquire foundational intercultural communication skills, which are essential for navigating the cultural nuances of region where the target language is spoken.

Learning outcomes

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to: 

Communicate in Japanese at a post-beginner level, both in writing and speaking
Employ Japanese vocabulary confidently at a post-beginner level in various contexts
Understand and apply basic Japanese sentences and common expressions related to everyday situations
Share and ask for simple information in Japanese about familiar topics and immediate needs
Explore and appreciate the diverse cultures and ways of life in Japan.
