A critical role for Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation professionals is reducing the likelihood of injury for the athletes you support. In this module you’ll cover risk factors for specific injuries and learn how to apply this knowledge to help reduce the risk of injury in different sports. You will learn to analyse injury incidence data - across different sports and injury types. You will apply this knowledge to evaluate injury prevention models and injury prevention programmes using sector best practice and emerging research, including strategies for athlete recovery from training, matches and competitions. From this you will be able apply and integrate your knowledge and understanding in order to minimise injury risk for your clients and enahnce recovery so that they can perform at their best for longer.

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to:
1. Critically evaluate sports injury prevention literature and injury prevention programmes.
2. Recognise and evaluate risk factors for injury in specific populations and the epidemiological patterns of injury in different sports and exercise activities
3. Compare and contrast sports injury prevention programmes in order to design and plan an injury prevention programme
4.Critically evaluate different recovery strategies used by athletes and clients
5. Apply different recovery strategies to various athletes and populations, based on relevant research and industry best practice
