Are you interested in learning how to give an effective sports massage? You can start a journey that could change your life by applying the fundamentals of sports massage. You will learn about the do's and don'ts of setting up a sports massage practice, how to communicate with your client, ask the right questions and plan and carry out a full body sports massage. Additionally, you will explore how to adapt massage techniques for a wide range of people and
health conditions. You will get plenty of practical, hands-on experience and will learn how to combine a range of different massage and stretching techniques. You will also integrate what you have learned about anatomy and physiology as well as physical assessment skills, which you will apply in a professional context to treat individuals.
Lectures 8 hours, Practical 24 hours
60 minutes VLE Test worth 20%. This Assessment is Pass Compulsory.
30 mins Practical Observation and Viva worth 80%. This Assessment is Pass Compulsory.
Reassessment Method: Like for like
On successfully completing the module, students will be able to:
1. Apply knowledge of concepts and well-established principles associated with sports massage, such as: indications, cautions and contraindications to sports massage and recognise a clients’ suitability for massage treatments.
2. Record and review sports massage treatments with appropriate and professional note-taking.
3. Apply and demonstrate a safe and effective sports massage treatment.
4. Identify what is meant by professional ethics and recognise health and safety issues.
