Overview

What do you need to know to do well studying psychology at university? How can you best demonstrate and articulate your abilities throughout your studies and beyond? This module will provide you with essential information and opportunities to develop skills that will see you through the next years of your course. From academic writing to self-reflection and career planning, this module will give you a thorough grounding in how to learn effectively and independently, and how to use this learning to think and write like a psychologist.

Method of assessment

Portfolio. Assessment Details: 3 x online quizzes worth 20%.
1200 words Extended Writing. Assessment Details: Essay worth 60%.
Research participation scheme worth 20%

Reassessment Method: Like for like. RPS is reassessed by a viva (short verbal examination).

Learning outcomes

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to: 

1. Articulate and apply the fundamental academic and professional skills required for degree level work in psychology.
2. Experience and apply knowledge of how and why scientific evidence is gathered, found, cited, described, and evaluated in psychology.
3. Understand and apply knowledge of the ethical principles governing psychological research and practice.
4. Examine and evaluate insights from psychological science on how to learn and work effectively as individuals and teams.
5. Reflect on and evaluate their own learning
