Overview

Building on the specific skills of image production gained in Film & Media Practice #1, you will be introduced to other kinds of digital content creation. Media content producers work with different mediums and in a variety of communication formats and this module will expand your practice-based and technical skills in order for you to produce diverse narrative-based and/or non-fiction creative outputs. Such content may include documentary or factual-based entertainment
podcasting
other forms of audio-visual formats including AV essays. The dialogue between media theory and practice will be encouraged and sustained through a combination of lectures, workshops and formative feedback opportunities to support your development as an independent digital content creator.

Method of assessment

1,500 words Portfolio. Assessment Details: Production paperwork (including scripts, treatments, synopsis, permissions, etc.) and creative statement of intent. worth 30%.
5 minutes (or equivalent) Project. Assessment Details: Portfolio of digital content productions. worth 70%.

Learning outcomes

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to: 
1) Build on existing skills in moving image production to develop technical proficiency in creating diverse forms of digital content production.
2) Conceive and plan creative digital work in the field of non-fiction or factual production.
3) Explain the significance of historical, social and cultural contexts in the production of digital content and media.
4) Analyse how their own creative practice intersects with key conceptual and theoretical ideas.
5) Work independently showing self-direction and reflection.
