Overview

If you aspire to pursue a career in 3D, in industries such as film, Visual Effects (VFX), product visualisation, gaming, or advertisement, your first step into this world is to learn the fundamental principles of 3D.
Through a combination of engaging lectures and interactive workshops, you will learn the theoretical underpinnings and hands-on practical skills required to conceptualise ideas, model, UV map, create and manipulate materials, and texture 3D assets. In addition, you will acquire the essential skills to showcase your work effectively, in a form that meets industry expectations to boost your employability prospects in the future. This involves understanding the principles of creating digital cameras, lighting, rendering, and compositing.

Method of assessment

3D Asset Creation worth 40%.
3D Asset Look Development worth 60%. This Assessment is Pass Compulsory.

Reassessment Method: Single instrument100% practical assessment (modelled, UV mapped, textured, and look-developed asset with materials plus reflective evaluation (500 words)).

Learning outcomes

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to: 
1) Utilise a variety of tools to conceptualise and model 3D assets.
2) Apply and manipulate shaders to produce 3D materials.
3) Apply the principles of UV mapping and texturing techniques.
4) Present a compilation of produced assets effectively, in a form that is in line with industry expectations.

  1. Credit level 4. Certificate level module usually taken in the first stage of an undergraduate degree.
