Communicating complex chemistry to a wide variety of audiences is a key skill of the modern scientist, adapting your approach to the audience to deliver information that enthuses and informs. In this module, you will consider the different aspects of science communication and the role it plays in science perception and confidence. You will consider how to evaluate the current state-of-the-art to predict future chemical field trajectories and to advise or persuade funding agencies, government, industrial bodies or policymakers. Additionally, you will understand the challengges faced with public engagement.

5,000 words Extended Writing. Assessment Details: Group Case Study worth 50%.
20 minutes/1 page Presentation. Assessment Details: Group Presentation & Poster worth 25%.
Reassessment Method: 100% Written Assessment (2,000 words).
On successfully completing the module, students will be able to:
1. Critically evaluate the current literature base to determine trends in chemistry to formulate opinion on the trajectory of chemical research.
2. Reflect upon and adapt to the challenges associated with communicating chemistry to non-specialist audiences.
3. Create original content utilising their understanding of chemistry communication with non-specialist audiences.
4. Direct and contribute opinion-based conversation related to chemical sciences through group work.
