Overview

Careers in science and technology involve critical thinking, problem solving, communication and creativity. In this module, you will undertake an independent research project to develop these skills. You will work together with an academic supervisor to address specific scientific questions and design a research project.
You will be trained in key techniques relating to the project, and work independently under the supervisor's guidance to design and execute experiments to address your research questions. You will learn how to effectively communicate your project and findings in style with scientific conferences and journals.

Method of assessment

A1 poster or 10 mins oral presentation Presentation. Assessment Details: Presentation worth 20%.
6,000 words Project. Assessment Details: Research Project worth 80%. This Assessment is Pass Compulsory.

Learning outcomes

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to: 
Design a project based around specific research questions and hypotheses.
Design and execute experimental and/or analytical approaches to address specific research questions and hypotheses.
Apply appropriate technologies and approaches to address research questions and hypotheses.
Record experimental and/or analytical procedures and data appropriately.
Present research in an appropriate, concise, informative and lucid style in keeping with high impact factor scientific journals and conference poster presentations.
