Training for trainers in person-centred active support
Following substantial demand for training in active support, the Centre plans to run the above course again in November and December 2010. The exact dates will be posted here nearer the time.
The first day will be held from 0930 to 1630 in Hut 4 at the Tizard Centre. This will be the main classroom based training and as well as ensuring that potential trainers all have the same knowledge base, it will provide information about some of the key issues for delivering the materials.
The second day will be last from 0930 to 1630 in Hut 4, Tizard Centre. This workshop will focus on the skills and knowledge required for training and leadership.
The assumption will be that people have experience of working with people with intellectual disabilities in a facilitative way and are working in an organisation where they can gain hands on practice in between sessions and where they can produce their videos for certification. In order to obtain a certificate you will need to submit two satisfactory video clips - one of you supporting someone with severe intellectual disabilities to engage in a short activity around their home and one of your providing feedback to a member of staff who has just provided support to someone. You will obviously need to gain consent for these videos and will need to provide a short introduction to the person and the activity featured. You will be given more guidance about this on the first training. To proceed to certification you will need to have attended both days. More information on certification will be provided on the day.
The cost for the training will be £350 and will include a light lunch, refreshments, certification and a copy of the PCAS CDRom upon successful certification. A reduced fee is available for current students and members of the Tizard Practitioner Network.
If your video clip does not satisfactorily demonstrate that you can provide good active support then you will be given the opportunity to attend hands-on training and to resubmit your video, at an additional cost.
Places will be limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. For further information, please contact Julie Beadle-Brown.
