Undergraduate Courses

Introduction

We are firm believers in the adage that ‘interest is a great motivator’ and we are always keen to ensure that students undertake a degree programme and modules that match their particular interests. The University of Kent runs a broad-based first year of study, where students take a variety of subjects, many of which they may never have studied before. The purpose of this first year is to provide you with the opportunity to experience a range of new subjects and reach an informed decision by the end of year about the particular content of your degree. It is crucial to use the first year to set strong foundations for your subsequent learning and peformance. Our first year courses are explicitly designed to motivate students through exciting lectures, while also helping you acquire research skills that allow you to perform your best at university and beyond.

The second and third years of your degree programme offer you the opportunity to specialise in your chosen field. Although you are required to take some core courses, you are also offered a wide range of optional modules so that you can construct a degree programme that matches your particular interests. In your third year, you are required to undertake a dissertation on a topic of your choosing under supervision by a member of staff. Throughout your time with us, we aim to support you in producing good coursework and successfully completed exams. We pride ourselves in offering a friendly and relaxed environment in which to study.
