The School of European Culture and Languages is a cohesive multi-disciplinary community that encourages debate, mutual support, and collaboration between nine related disciplines: Classical and Archaeological Studies, Comparative Literature, English Language and Linguistics, French, German, Hispanic Studies, Italian, Philosophy, and Religious Studies. The international reputation of the School ensures that we have a lively research culture, sustained by a vibrant intellectual community.
In order to offer our postgraduates the best possible start to their study, the School is pleased to announce the following scholarships for taught MA and research students.
The School of European Culture and Languages is pleased to be able to offer the following Taught Master’s Scholarships for the academic year 2012–13.
Criteria
All Taught MA Scholarships are open to applicants who have made an application for a Taught MA programme in the School of European Culture and Languages for the academic year commencing September 2012 on any one of the School’s Canterbury-based Taught MA programmes. The SECL MA scholarship competitions are open to UK, EU and overseas fee-paying students.
How to apply
Candidates must make formal application to study on an applicable SECL Taught Master’s programme to commence their studies in September 2012. Candidates must also send a supporting statement, not exceeding 500 words, outlining why they feel they are suitable to be awarded a scholarship. Deadline for applications: Thursday 5th April, 2012 (Students may be interviewed as appropriate)
The Graduate School Scholarships Scheme provides a £1,000 scholarship to University of Kent graduates who earn a Bachelor’s degree with honours and register for a postgraduate degree at Kent by 1 October 2012. There is no need to make a separate application. This funding will be provided to all eligible 2012 graduates on registration. For further information, see Graduate School Scholarships.
The School of European Culture and Languages is delighted to invite applications for our Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Research Preparation Master’s Award. This award provides funding for courses that focus on advanced study and research training explicitly intended to provide a foundation for further research at doctoral level.
Criteria

Applicants who have been offered a place on any of the Kent at Paris MA programmes in Comparative Literature, French and Comparative Literature, Modern French Studies, and Postcolonial Studies may also apply for one of up to ten Kent at Paris Scholarships, currently valued at £6,000 each. Paris Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding applicants able to demonstrate a high level of academic achievement, clear intellectual ambition and the potential to make a strong contribution to their chosen MA programme.
