Honorary Lektorin

Susanne Krauß was DAAD-Lektorin (German Academic Exchange Service lecturer) at the University of Kent from 2007-2012. She graduated from Marburg University in January 2007 with a Magister in American Studies, Media Arts and German as a Foreign Language and, before coming to UKC in September 2007, worked as a research assistant at the Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture at the University of Gießen. Now, she teaches at the University of Gießen and is working on her Ph.D. on vocabulary learning and digital technologies.

Her previous teaching experience includes:

  • German as a foreign Language courses at all levels as well as courses in applied linguistics
  • Practical Seminars, e.g. 'Landeskunde und Internet', 'Neue deutsche Rechtschreibung', 'Mediennutzung im Fremdsprachenunterricht' (Radboud Universiteit, Nijmegen, Netherlands)

Previous employment includes:

  • Teacher of German at the North American Summer school of the Technical University of Darmstadt
  • Teacher of German at the German Summer School of the Atlantic, University of Rhode Island at Kingston, USA
  • Teaching assistant at Penn State University, PA, USA

Research interests

Susanne’s research interests lie in applied linguistics, especially concerning foreign language education and the use of technology in language learning and teaching.

Current projects and funds:

  • She is currently working on her dissertation on vocabulary learning and digital technologies.
  • 2009: Challenge Fund Grant for ‘Shortcuts Into German Grammar’ (together with Dr John Partridge) developing interactive material on various German grammatical topics for students (ongoing project)
  • 2009: Challenge Fund Grant for ‘Improving language learning through learner-oriented oral classes’ improving speaking skills at Beginner’s level in lab sessions using, amongst others, the programmes ‘Tell Me More’ and ‘CAN8’
