Jane's research focuses in broad terms on processes of Europeanisation, namely the investigation of the impact of the European Union (EU) on governance and policy making processes of its member states.  She is particularly interested in how adaptation to EU governance can condition the range of policy choices available to domestic policy actors and how they in turn try to shape EU governance in order to secure policy outcomes closest to their preferences.  Her research also focuses on implementation and compliance with EU norms and rules in member states, most notably with regard to EU environmental policy.  She is also interested in the politicisation of European integration in the national political arena through referendums on EU treaties (with particular reference to Ireland).

Jane joined the School in 2004 as a Lecturer in European Politics.  She holds a PhD in Political Science from Trinity College Dublin, an MPhil in European Studies and a BA in European Studies from University College Cork, Ireland.  Jane previously worked as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow on the EU-funded Research Project 'Organising for European Union Enlargement' under the Directorship of Professor Brigid Laffan of University College Dublin, as well as a lecturer at the Department of Political Science, Trinity College Dublin.  She is the School’s Admissions Officer as well as convenor of the BA in European Studies programme.
