An open access journal edited by Kent economist, Professor Iain Fraser, which provides an inclusive forum for applied research in agricultural and environmental economics, has reached a major milestone in the publishing world.

Q Open, an economic journal covering agriculture, environment, food, development and climate, has been indexed by Web of Science, the world’s most trusted publisher-independent global citation database. To achieve this, a journal must meet strict criteria for editorial rigor, ethical standards, peer review transparency, and impact.

This major milestone is testament to the quality and value of the journal which was set up as a joint venture between Oxford University Press and the European Association of Agricultural Economics. As its founding and inaugural Editor in Chief since its launch in 2021, Iain Fraser, Professor of Agri-Environmental Economics in the School of Economics, Politics and International Relations, has made a significant contribution to its success.

Speaking of the news, he said: ‘This outcome represents 7 years of hard work! Thanks to the editorial team (past and present), authors and reviewers who have all helped Q Open reach this important landmark.’

The journal will receive its first Impact Factor in 2026, a metric based on the number of times articles in the journal are cited in other publications.
