About

I currently work as a Senior Policy Advisor for the UK Government in the Nuclear Cluster of the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero. I work on developing large-scale nuclear projects. Previously, I worked in the Defending Democracy Taskforce in the Cabinet Office, Home Office, and Department for Levelling up, Housing and Communities.

My research interests lie at the intersection of philosophy of cognitive science and AI and philosophy of mind. My primary research focus is on the role of causation and evidence in cognitive science, and on the relation between cognitive scientific explanations and theories of mental structure, representation, and content. I am also interested in the nature of scientific understanding about the brain/mind.

Research interests

I have published widely on topic in philosophy of cognitive science and AI and philosophy of mind, including: concepts, explanation, integration, mental representations, causation, evidence, the Bayesian mind/brain, scientific understanding, and mechanistic and nonmechanistic approaches to cognitive science.

Teaching

Samuel teaches mainly in contemporary analytic philosophy, with a focus on the philosophy of mind and the philosophy of cognitive science.
