- Dr Matthew Walpole
After a decade at DICE, completing a PhD in nature-based tourism in Asia and postdoctoral research in human-wildlife conflict and coexistence in Africa, Matt moved into the international conservation charity sector. At the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre, Matt developed and delivered global biodiversity indicators and assessments for UN bodies and helped governments to mainstream biodiversity into wider decision-making. He also directed the secretariat of the UK National Ecosystem Assessment, the first of its kind to explore the value of nature to society. Matt had two stints working at Fauna & Flora International, first leading a programme on conservation and rural livelihoods and then, as Senior Conservation Director, overseeing FFI’s global field operations. He then worked as a strategic advisor at WWF International, with a particular focus on area-based conservation. In September 2022, Matt returned to his roots, joining Cornwall Wildlife Trust as CEO.
