Dr Hazel Jackson
Hazel holds a PhD in evolutionary conservation genetics from the University of Kent (2015) and has a diverse background spanning civil service, academia and the charity sector. Currently Associate Science Director for Biodiversity and Land use at UK Centre of Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH), Hazel transitioned into third sector leadership to ensure the effective integration of data, research, and evidence into policy and practical conservation efforts. Hazel is passionate about fostering high-quality, collaborative science to drive strategic impact across the environmental sector.
With significant leadership experience in evidence-based initiatives such as citizen science, research collaboration and funding, ecological guidance, conservation training, monitoring and evaluation, and the leadership of 'State of' reports for the Woodland Trust, Hazel excels in providing strategic direction to achieve impactful conservation outcomes at scale. She is deeply committed to advancing biodiversity conservation through strategic development, innovative thinking and empowering teams.
Hazel remains engaged in applied research as an Affiliate at the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology, University of Kent, and serves as a Science and Conservation Trustee at the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
