My Final Year during a Pandemic

This year has definitely not been an ordinary year. With all our teaching being online it has been an interesting task to stay engaged with the subject and with our Professors and school community.

However, with that, it has been incredibly rewarding. Having this flexibility to engage with modules has meant I have had more time to discover more facets of Social Anthropology that I feel passionate about. It has made connecting the world with our academia even more important.

I studied Social Anthropology because of my love for people and understanding different cultures and backgrounds from people’s perspectives. It is a subject that creates a lot of empathy for others and consideration for why we might be different.

Our university lecturers have curated lectures that stay engaging and informative whilst encouraging us to connect it with what’s happening in the world. It is a subject that is incredibly adaptable as we are studying people in their particular times.

A special shout out to Professor Dimitrios Theodossopoulos, Dr Judith Bovensiepen and Dr Matthew Hodges for making this demanding final year so fulfilling and engaging. Whilst also supporting us as individuals in our mental health and wellbeing.

Though it is the ending to an era that nobody would have expected, studying Social Anthropology at the University of Kent has been definitely shaped me into the person I am today that I am proud of. Wishing the best of luck and support to future Social Anthropologists!
