Tell us about your career path since graduation.

I started my career as a software developer and spent about 16 years in this area. I then transitioned to IT Project Manager (specializing in Agile), and have been doing this ever since, for over 20 years now - a total of 37 years in the industry. I started my career in London's financial district, working for the International Stock Exchange and then Lloyd's of London. In 1993, I decided to sell everything and emigrated to the US. I worked in various industries (FedEx, First American Bank, KBB, HP, EA Games, Air Liquide, Wolter's Kluwer) and lastly placed at Google where I am today.

What does a typical work day look like for you?

Solving project problems on various projects that I am attached to. It's a very predictable career, which is good if you like that.

Can you share a professional highlight from your career so far?

Part of the team that created FedEx Ship - allowing you to print your own label and send a package yourself, using desktop software, and now on the web. I have the distinction of sending the very first international package using FedEx Ship.

How did your time at Kent help you achieve your current career?

Well, my degree helped me to get the interviews. :)

What advice would you give to our current/prospective students who are looking to get into the same line of work?

Don't worry about getting a 1st - I got a 3rd and no-one ever asked me what grade I got for my degree. Instead, ensure you pass, but don't kill yourself attempting to pass...

Did you get involved in any extracurricular activities as a student?

No, I was boring, sorry.

Do you have a favourite memory from your time at Kent?

Other than climbing the floodlights on the soccer pitch? Shouldn't have done that...

Is there anything you would do differently if you could repeat your time at Kent?

Yes, drink less!

Are you still in touch with other Kent alumni or academics?

The list is dwindling now, after almost 40 years, but there are some, yes.

What are your future ambitions?

To retire!!
