Centre for the History of Archaeology

Resources

With the help of volunteers, generous funding from Kent, INSTAP and the Cotsen Foundation as well as the crucial donations of Anthony Snodgrass, Colin and Jane Renfrew the centre is currently developing a strong research collection on the history of archaeology.

Here you can find work in progress on all these fronts, some of which are already useable.

Progress and Links

The centre is hosting resources relevant to the Eolithic Controversy project by Roy Ellen and Angela Muthana.

The Glyn Daniel slide collection is being digitized at the moment and will ultimately complement the Glyn Daniel archive at St. John's College Cambridge Library

The Renfrew archive is currently being catalogued, and a draft listing of the holdings is available. Parts of the photo collection of Colin Renfrew have already been digitized, mainly from Orkney excavations. These photos are searchable and can be viewed using zoom technology. There is also a video of Colin Renfrew on the New Archaeology available.

The Snodgrass offprint collection has been now catalogued and can be downloaded for your own use (for individual researchers only). We hope to turn it into a wiki-style resource that will act as a bibliographical database for the early Iron Age of Europe

The Oral Histories project has been recording interviews on the history of development of ideas and theory in archaeology for quite some time. Thanks to Pamela J. Smith we are able to make some this work available.

The Centre is directed by Evangelos Kyriakidis.

Patty Baker, Roy Ellen, Evangelos Kyriakidis and Steve Willis are members of the Steering Committee
