SharePoint is a web-based service for staff, which enables team collaboration, workflow automation, discussion and information sharing with an easy to use web interface.
Documents can be shared with control over which staff can view, open, edit, print and distribute them. This enables teams of people to collaborate on a single document without populating a folder with many copies or emailing attachments.
SharePoint also has extensive workflow tools; tasks can be created with a start and end date and can be assigned to individuals and progress tracked all within a single site making it ideal for team working. The same site can also contain relevant associated documents, latest news updates and discussion.
SharePoint is currently a pilot service, but will be available across the University for staff use from August 2009. To find out more contact the IT Helpdesk:
