Today’s report from Universities UK (UUK) on “Busting graduate job myths” highlights growth in the graduate job market, but also flags areas for improvement explains James Corbin, Head of Careers and Employability at Kent.

‘This report demonstrates that the graduate job market is already showing green shoots of growth, and that the future for university students has become much brighter once again. However, the gap in jobs and graduates suggests more needs to be done.

‘Universities need to provide their students with a range of skills and support so that they are well-placed to capitalise on this growth. At Kent, our award-winning Careers Service works with students to go beyond their degree, embedding skills such as critical reflection and intellectual curiosity to integrity and resilience into their studies.

‘It’s also essential that we work with employers to ensure the needs of the job market are met. At Kent we are proud to work with a wide range of local employers, who offer graduate vacancies, academic placements, internships and short-term work opportunities. By fostering these relationships, institutions can focus on attributes which are considered most important to businesses. It also opens the door to collaborative working which can potentially lead onto graduate employment opportunities. With many graduates staying in the area, this approach will help local communities to thrive.’

Our graduates develop skills beyond their degree and can help you build your business. Discover how you can connect our fantastic graduates with your business through out Made in Kent programme.
