University Chancellor Gavin Esler and former Labour Transport Minister and leading opponent of Brexit, Lord Adonis, have taken part in a discussion in London entitled ‘Can Brexit be stopped’.

The debate took place at Church House, Great Smith Street, Westminster SW1P 3AZ, on 6 November at 18.30.  Entrance was on a first come, first served basis.

The event followed the huge success of a similar debate in Canterbury on 20 September when the two discussed the issue at the Gulbenkian Theatre at the University of Kent as part of its ‘In Conversation’ series.

Audience at the event

The In Conversation events consist of an informal conversation between the guest and the University’s Chancellor, former BBC journalist and author Gavin Esler. Audience members can participate in the conversations by submitting questions in advance via Twitter using #GavinAsks or email at events@kent.ac.uk.

Lord Adonis is a Labour peer who served in the Labour government until May 2010, when he became shadow Treasury spokesman until September 2015. He resigned from his position as head of the National Infrastructure Commission over his criticism of the government’s handling of a rail franchise. He is also an outspoken critic of the Brexit process.

Launched in 2015, In Conversation guests have included Dame Diana Rigg DBE, crime writer Ian Rankin OBE, comedian Jo Brand, and film critic Mark Kermode.
