First cohort of Kent & Medway Medical School students graduate

Olivia Miller

The first ever cohort of students from Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) graduated this week (17 September).

The new graduates began their studies in 2020, when KMMS was the only medical school in the UK to have opened during a pandemic.

A collaboration between Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, KMMS is the first medical school in the region. It is well documented that Kent and Medway have one of the lowest doctor to patients ratio in the country.

The University is proud that a significant number of graduating students have chosen to stay in the Kent community to help address the acute shortage of doctors and hospital clinicians in the region.

Newly qualified doctor, Alfie Wain is one of the new graduates from KMMS staying in the region to work. He grew up in Kent and was pleased to be able to stay close to home to study and work as a doctor. Alfie did his medical training at Medway Maritime Hospital where he continues to work and is proud to be able to help the local community.

Congratulations to the KMMS Class of 2025, we wish you all the best for your onward careers in  medicine.
