This is a chance to realise the view of Connection for Kent's young people.

The University of Kent’s Institute of Cultural and Creative Industries (ICCI) has launched its first creative competition for 14-16 year olds across Kent, on the theme of connection.

The competition aims to generate creative responses to the theme of connection as young people across the county begin to emerge from lockdown and reflect on their experiences of this extraordinary year, and their visions of the future.

Submissions can be in the form of multiple digital arts, including; film, animation, photography, music production, performance (submitted as a recording) and creative writing. Submissions must include a supporting statement of no more than 300 words, discussing how the entry explores the theme of connection and what it means to them.

Shortlisted entries will be exhibited at an online digital exhibition during the University’s autumn term later this year.

There are three prizes to be awarded for entries:

Eileen Hartney, Liaison and Engagement Officer at ICCI, said: “This competition is a fantastic opportunity for young people across Kent and Medway to express themselves and have their efforts showcased and rewarded. Not only this, it is also a chance for us who are older to have a view into how the next generation has felt about lockdown and how they understand the concept of being connected in today’s world.”

The deadline for submissions is midnight on Friday 28 August 2020, whilst the winners will be announced Monday 14 September 2020.

To apply for the competition, entrants can register on the University’s website.
