These workshops aim to inform and educate students on how to start-up a business; be self-employed; freelance; and consult while studying. They are run by the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, who are placed to connect students with Chamber entrepreneurs, access vital funding available to start-ups and offer hands on workshops.

Location: Canterbury Campus

  • Dates: Wednesdays: Jan 30, Feb 6, Feb 13, Feb 20 and March 6
  • No session on Feb 27 - Digital Conference
  • Time: 16:00-18:00
  • Number of hours: 5 x 2hours 
  • Employability Points: 10 points per workshop

Learning Outcomes

The workshops have been structured so that all students who are interested in freelancing or being self-employed can feel confident that they’ll walk away with valuable information. By the end of this course, students should be able to;

  • Pitch a business idea
  • Understand the finances, legalities and processes for starting up a business
  • Identify a suitable structure for a business plan
  • Generate a business idea,
  • Test a business idea
  • Develop marketing research
  • Understandsales processes
  • Pricing
  • Plan cash flow
  • Know tax, insurance and VAT requirements
  • Understand the elements of a business plan
