About

Ramy is an accomplished academic with a distinguished career in mechanical engineering. With over a decade of teaching and research experience, he has established himself as an expert in his field. 

His professional journey includes a notable stint as a research fellow in the machining research group, where he contributed to a collaborative project involving several prestigious institutions. This joint venture brought together the University of Birmingham, Oxford University, Imperial College London, and the University of Southampton, showcasing Ramy's ability to work with top-tier academic institutions. 

Currently, Ramy holds the position of teaching fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, where he continues to share his expertise with students and colleagues alike. 

Throughout his career, Ramy has demonstrated a commitment to both teaching and research, making him a valuable asset to the academic community and the field of mechanical engineering.

Research interests

 Ramy's research interests span several key areas in mechanical engineering and advanced manufacturing:

  1. Non-conventional Machining Processes:  -Abrasive Water Jet Machining (AWJM) · Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) · Laser Beam Machining (LBM). His focus is on applying these techniques to high-performance materials. 
  2. Surface Integrity and Material Characterisation: Investigating the effects of various machining processes on material properties and surface quality. 
  3. Additive Manufacturing: Exploring innovative 3D printing technologies and their applications in engineering. 
  4. Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing (CAD/CAM): Utilising advanced software tools to optimise design and manufacturing processes. 
  5. Design of Experiment (DoE): Applying statistical methods to efficiently plan, conduct, and analyse experiments in engineering research. 

These research areas reflect Ramy's commitment to advancing manufacturing technologies and materials science, with a particular emphasis on high-performance materials and innovative machining methods.  

Teaching

Ramy is a dedicated academic with a wealth of experience in mechanical engineering education and research. His teaching portfolio spans several prestigious institutions, where he has delivered a diverse range of courses including Engineering Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Mechanical Design, Machine Tool Design, CAD/CAM, Project Management, and Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer. 

His teaching philosophy integrates practical applications, digital tools, and industry collaborations to enhance student learning and employability. Beyond lecturing, he has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, guided students in advanced manufacturing techniques, and contributed to curriculum development and accreditation processes.

Additionally, Ramy has played an active role in academic mentoring, student support, and university engagement through outreach programs, open days, and departmental initiatives. His commitment to innovative teaching, inclusive education, and research-driven learning continues to shape the next generation of engineers

Supervision

Ramy has supervised up to 15 undergraduate and postgraduate research projects for mechanical and civil engineering students, with a primary focus on advanced manufacturing of high-performance materials, life cycle assessment, and material recycling.

His mentorship has guided students in conducting cutting-edge research, leading to publications in prestigious journals. Through hands-on training and technical guidance, he has helped students develop critical skills in experimental design, data analysis, and sustainable engineering solutions, contributing to both academic advancement and industrial applications.
