Management MSc
I went into my placement with an open mind and gained knowledge, experience and values.
Location played a huge role for me when choosing Kent Business School (KBS). Having grown up in the area and being able to commute to university from home made it a much easier choice.
I’d say it’s the learning environment; the excellent library and class facilities helps to motivate me to achieve the best I possibly can. Also, the opportunity to meet different people from around the world including highly respected lecturers makes KBS very recommendable.
I was fortunate enough to secure a placement as a data analyst at Brachers LLP located within a short distance from my home. Knowing that the law firm was widely respected in the Kent area made the choice of placement so much easier.
I didn’t have experience in the legal sector before my placement, however everyone was very patient and helpful in teaching me the ins and outs of how a legal organisation works. The work of a data analyst mainly consists of creating reports for senior management and other employees, so I also learned how vital teamwork is.
During my placement, my analytical skills were greatly tested as I was analysing and interpreting data daily. I also learnt how important it is to be able to work well as part of a team. I certainly enjoyed working with others.
The first few weeks of the placement were a challenge especially as I was getting used to the culture of the organisation and the different terms used. However, my colleagues were supportive and I had a great supervisor who was there for me every step of the way. It was reassuring to know I could count on them if I had any doubts.
My proudest moment was when our top client’s regional manager personally recommended keeping me on, which led to me being offered a full-time position.
Meeting like-minded people with a passion to make the best of their capabilities has to be one of the highlights for me. Overall, I will always be thankful for the opportunity to step into the real world and get a sense of the corporate lifestyle. The placement opportunity has undoubtedly opened doors for me.
It went beyond what I expected! I had a background in retail with no experience in the legal sector, however, I went into my placement with an open mind and gained knowledge, experience and values.
I believe gaining any sort of experience in life is worthwhile, but I’ve always been told competition is at its peak in the job market. Taking a placement in the field you want to pursue alongside your Master’s degree will, nine times out of ten, move you up in the priority list.
