Autism Studies - MA
The teaching staff are incredible. They are approachable, considerate and respond to the needs of the students.
My son is autistic, and I have worked in education for over 20 years with students with special educational needs. I have a lot of practical experience but have always wanted to study and gain a qualification in autism to further my understanding and underpin what I have learned from my personal and professional life.
I have been fascinated and enlightened by the autism modules in particular as they have completely expanded my mind, attitude and understanding. It has inspired me to look at my own practice and to explore a different career.
The teaching staff are incredible. They are approachable, considerate and respond to the needs of the students. They listen to their students and respond quickly and effectively to feedback to the extent of redesigning a module.
Autism is a key part of my life. As soon as I began the MA, I started to examine my thoughts, feelings and behaviours in relation to my own son as well as my work. It has inspired me to want to do and achieve more for my son and for autistic people in general.
I am a part-time student and have only spent a small amount of time on campus. I have, however, loved every minute of it!
It drives me to do better every day. I am better person for enrolling onto this course. I am motivated, inspired, enthusiastic and have endless passion for this subject and for learning.
I am exploring a change of career and hope to work with adults in services, continue to study and possibly get involved in research.
Enjoy every minute because the time flies by. Keep to your deadlines and, if you struggle with anything, speak to your tutor as they will listen to you and they want you to succeed!
