Immersing yourself in the vibrant cultures of Chinese-speaking countries, you will focus on developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, all aimed at fostering practical communication in everyday situations (such as greetings, introductions, and personal interactions). Your learning will include discovering and using vocabulary relevant to everyday scenarios and constructing basic sentences and common expressions. You will have the chance to share and inquire about simple information concerning familiar topics and immediate needs. Along the way, you will also engage with diverse cultural elements, allowing you to appreciate the rich lifestyles of Chinese-speaking countries and deepen your understanding of the language in context. In so doing, you will acquire foundational intercultural communication skills, which are essential for navigating the cultural nuances of regions where Chinese is spoken.

• Written: 250-word equivalent Research Project Report contributes 40% to the final grade.
• Practical Language Skills: 45-minute Listening, speaking and reading assessment contributes 60% to the final grade.

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to:

2. Employ Mandarin Chinese vocabulary confidently at a post-beginner level in various contexts
3. Understand and apply basic Mandarin Chinese sentences and common expressions related to everyday situations
4. Share and ask for simple information in Mandarin Chinese about familiar topics and immediate needs.
5. Explore and appreciate the diverse cultures and ways of life in Chinese-speaking countries.
